Mr. Brown (Brownie) started Brownies Third Lung (BTL) in 1969 based on his own personal desire to dive for tropical fish with as much freedom as possible. The nascent Brownies Third Lung manufacturing thrived as a garage industry for 16 years. Robert Carmichael became the first full time employee in 1979, when he was 18 years old. Phase two of the Brownie revolution began six years later when Robert Carmichael took on ownership of the company.

Over the years, Brownie's has worked hard to reduce the weight, number of parts, and cost of Surface Supplied Air units. The breakthrough finally happened in 2000, with the introduction of the BTL Direct Drive systems. The new systems provide more than twice the amount of air as previous units, and at 40% less weight-- and most importantly, at less cost to you.

Brownie's Third Lung is a vertically integrated manufacturer with complete in-house resources and design capabilities to suit every recreational hooka diving need. We design, test, manufacture and sell all of our gear at our factory in Ft. Lauderdale. We are able to control the quality of our maufacturing process from top to bottom, from making our own tools and stitching our floater covers through the tightening of the final bolt of a finished Hookah. Through Brownie's Tankfill, Brownie's designs, manufactures, and installs the finest tankfill systems for on-board yacht use. Brownie's Tankfill also provides complete diving packages and dive training solutions for yachts. Our high pressure (HP) scuba compressors offer a completely marinized and automated alternative to other compressors in the market place. Starting with a dependable Bauer block we remove all mild steel fittings and most painted aluminum parts and replace them with stainless steel. The solid state automated controls will completely eliminate the need for crew to monitor the compressor and manually drain the condensate every 15 minutes allowing them to attend to other needs. We have additional options such as soft start packages, remote fill panels, four-way fill manifolds, high pressure cascade systems and many others that give us the ability to custom fit the needs of any vessel.
